Happy Ganesh Chaturthi/Vinayaka Chavithi to all wh Happy Ganesh Chaturthi/Vinayaka Chavithi to all who celebrate! A day for worshipping the god of new beginnings, remover of obstacles, bringer of good luck, and the bestower of wisdom. My most favorite festival of the year and one that I try to celebrate as traditionally as possible. Marigolds and mango leaves, muggu ( rangoli/kilam), palavelli, making his favorite undrallu and modakam....and for the past few years, making the clay Ganesha idol at home. A few vignettes of our Pooja yesterday.
Happy Rakhi! Made my go-to almond mithai to celebr Happy Rakhi! Made my go-to almond mithai to celebrate....the base stays the same every year, just the shape changes πŸ˜€ A day celebrating siblings and filled with memories of childhood days and simpler times 😊. 1 and 1/4 cup almond flour 3/4 to 1 cup of powdered sugar 2 tbsp butter 3- 4 tbsp water 1 tbsp ghee A large pinch of saffron Few drops Kewda water (optional) 1 tbsp milk 4 cardamom, powdered Some silver vark and pistachio for garnish. Add saffron to warm milk and set aside. Add the almond flour, butter, sugar and water to a pan. Cook on medium flame until it comes together like a dough and is cooked. It took me about 10 mins on a medium flame. Add ghee and stir. Add some Kewda water if using (I skipped since I ran out). I test the doneness by taking a tiny piece and rolling it into a ball and breaking into 2 pieces. If it breaks cleanly without being stretchy, it's done. Take a small amount and add a little saffron milk and the cardamom. Divide into small balls. Divide the white part into small portions, flatten and add the saffron portion and close. Grease hands with ghee and roll into balls. Garnish with some silver vark, saffron milk and pistachio.

Used juicy, local Georgia peaches but have used apricots and plums in the past. Temp still in the 90s in our neck of the woods and this 8-inch cake worked out beautifully in my toaster oven. And who else loves that hack of bringing butter to room temp quickly by boiling water in a bowl, dumping the water and overturning the bowl over the butter? Works every single time!!!
